About Us

The Cochrane Complementary Medicine Field is based at Georgetown University, and works with national and international collaborators across the globe. Collaborators have contributed to systematic reviews of controlled clinical trials in areas such as acupuncture, massage, herbal medicine, and mind-body therapy, among others, and disseminated the results of these systematic reviews to practictioners, researchers, patients, and the general public. We have also worked steadily to meet the growing demand for information about complementary therapies by identifying published clinical trials, training authors and users of systematic reviews, and conducting research to improve systematic review methodology.

Our primary aims and activities include the following:

  •   Improve access to Cochrane reviews and disseminate Cochrane systematic reviews on traditional, complementary, and integrative medicine (TCIM) to a worldwide audience;
  •   Support the production of systematic reviews on TCIM therapies by producing reviews, by advising others on review conduct, and by advancing the methodology of evidence synthesis in TCIM; and
  •   Promote an evidence-based approach to the use of TCIM.
