New scoping review assesses the effects of medical and non-medical cannabis use in older adults

A team of colleagues based in Canada shares news of a scoping review in preparation to assess the effects of medical and non-medical cannabis use in older adults. The review team has assessed data from 95 studies to establish the evidence base for beneficial and harmful effects. Most of the studies identified addressed medical cannabis use overseen by a physician, and reported on physical and mental outcomes; few focused specifically on older adults. Preliminary findings indicate possible benefits for some indications in older adults, but the evidence base is not strong and some key research gaps remain. The protocol for this study is available online at BMJ Open.
