Researchers from Cochrane Complementary Medicine’s global network continue to work closely with the WHO’s Global Traditional Medicine Centre. Current and recent initiatives include:
- Participating in a PAHO Regional Consultation on Research Prioritization in Traditional, Complementary, and Integrative Medicines (TCIM) in São Paulo, Brazil in June 2025.
- Connecting the WHO to Cochrane Evidence Synthesis Units for a scoping review of knowledge translation models and tools in traditional medicine. Cochrane Complementary Medicine is supporting the selected group, the Cochrane Evidence Synthesis Unit Iberoamérica, on the project.
- Launching a joint project between the WHO and the University of Tübingen’s Complementary Medicine Research Group, which hosts the Cochrane Complementary Medicine Germany satellite, to review global models and identify best practices for integrating traditional and complementary medicine into European health systems. The project will include a comprehensive review of existing models, a qualitative study in a model region in Germany, and, ultimately, an expert consensus process.
- Coordination of a bid from Cochrane Iberoamérica responding to a WHO request for proposals to develop a suite of public-facing materials for making choices about using traditional, complementary, and integrative medicine. Cochrane Iberoamérica assembled a consortium of researchers from Cochrane, Informed Health Choices, and the University of Sydney and was awarded the project. Cochrane Complementary Medicine is leading the initial steps of the project and will present those results at the Second WHO Global Summit on Traditional Medicine in December 2025.
